The Two-Way Traffic road sign (W212) is a W Series warning sign used to alert drivers that the road ahead carries traffic in both directions. It is used where drivers may otherwise expect one-way operation or where conditions change and opposing traffic becomes a hazard.
Purpose and function
This sign resets driver expectation and reduces the risk of head-on conflicts by warning that vehicles will be approaching from the opposite direction. It is particularly important where road layout, lane markings, or previous sections could cause confusion.
Typical applications
- Transitions from divided to undivided roadway
- Roadworks or temporary arrangements where two-way flow is introduced
- Narrow roads and passes where opposing traffic may not be expected
- Approaches to sections with restricted sight distance
