The Temporary Speed Limit road sign (TR201-80) is an R Series temporary regulatory sign used to indicate the maximum legal speed that may not be exceeded from the point of installation. An 80 km/h limit is commonly used where a higher-speed route needs temporary reduction due to roadworks, lane shifts, or short-term hazard conditions.
Purpose and function
This sign reduces approach speed and provides drivers more time to react where sightlines, lane widths, or surface conditions have changed temporarily. It supports safer flow and reduces crash severity through work zones.
Typical applications
- Roadworks on regional routes and high-speed arterials
- Temporary lane reductions or contraflow arrangements
- Maintenance zones with altered shoulders or barriers
- Temporary diversions where geometry requires slower speeds
Permanent alternative
Commonly used with
- Roadworks ahead Temporary road sign (TW336)
- General Warning Temporary road sign (TW339)
- Traffic Signals Ahead road sign (W301)
