The Sharp Curve (Right) road sign (W204) is a road layout warning sign used to alert drivers to a sharp right-hand curve ahead. It is used where the curve severity requires clear advance warning so drivers can reduce speed and maintain safe lane position.
Purpose and function
This sign warns drivers that the road alignment will change sharply to the right. It supports earlier braking and improved control, reducing the risk of lane departure and run-off-road incidents, particularly where sight distance is limited.
Typical applications
- Rural and regional roads with sharp curvature
- Approaches to bends with restricted visibility
- Road sections where the curve is not expected based on preceding alignment
Selection and placement guidance
- Install in advance of the curve to allow safe deceleration
- Ensure visibility from normal approach speeds and angles
- Supplement with chevron alignment signs where required through the curve
Temporary alternative
This sign is also available as a temporary road sign for short-term traffic control:
