The Sharp Curve (Left) road sign (W205) is a road layout warning sign used to alert drivers to a sharp left-hand curve ahead. It is used where the curve severity requires clear advance warning so drivers can reduce speed and maintain safe lane position.
Purpose and function
This sign warns drivers that the road alignment will change sharply to the left. It supports earlier braking, improved vehicle control, and reduced risk of lane departure, particularly in wet conditions, at night, or where sight distance is limited.
Typical applications
- Rural and regional roads with sharp curvature
- Approaches to bends with limited forward visibility
- Road sections where the curve is not expected based on preceding alignment
Selection and placement guidance
- Install in advance of the curve to allow safe deceleration
- Ensure the sign is visible from normal approach distances and speeds
- Use chevron alignment signs through the curve where additional guidance is required
Temporary alternative
This sign is also available as a temporary road sign for short-term traffic control:
