The Pedestrians road sign (W307) is a symbolic warning sign used to alert drivers that pedestrians may be present on or near the roadway ahead. It is used where pedestrian movement creates a potential conflict with vehicles and drivers need earlier awareness to respond safely.
Purpose and function
This sign increases driver awareness in pedestrian-active areas, supporting safer speed choice and improved scanning. It is appropriate where pedestrians may be walking near the carriageway, crossing informally, or moving between facilities and parking areas.
Typical applications
- Estate roads, business parks, and shared access routes
- Industrial sites with mixed vehicle and pedestrian movement
- Approaches to public facilities, parking areas, and transport hubs
Selection and placement guidance
- Install the sign before the area where pedestrian activity begins
- Avoid using this sign where a formal pedestrian crossing sign is more appropriate
- Maintain clear sightlines, and avoid placement behind parked vehicles or structures
