The No Stopping road sign (R217) is a regulatory prohibition sign used to indicate that stopping is not permitted at the signed location. It applies to any situation where a vehicle comes to a halt, even briefly, unless required for safety or to comply with another traffic control.
Purpose and function
This sign prevents vehicles from stopping where doing so would create danger, reduce visibility, obstruct traffic flow, or interfere with access and emergency movement. It is stricter than no parking because it prohibits stopping for loading, drop-offs, or waiting.

- Narrow road sections, bridges, and constrained lanes
- Approaches to intersections, corners, and pedestrian crossings
- Clearways, access points, and emergency routes
