The Dead End or Road Closed Chevron road sign (W410) is a high-visibility chevron warning sign used to indicate a closed roadway or a dead end where through movement is not possible. It provides strong visual guidance to slow down and stop, and to prevent vehicles from entering a closed section of road.
Purpose and function
This sign improves driver decision-making by clearly signalling that the road ahead does not continue. It is typically used where physical closure exists, or where temporary traffic accommodation requires a hard visual stop point.
Typical applications
- Road closures for construction, maintenance, or emergencies
- Dead-end streets and access roads with no through route
- Temporary traffic accommodation where vehicles must be turned back
- Site access control points and closed internal roads
Commonly used with
- Roadworks Ahead temporary road sign (TW336)
- Stop, Go road sign with or without a steel stand (R1.5)
- Contractor Traffic Cones with Base (CTF1-A)
