The Cyclists road sign (W309) is a symbolic warning sign used to alert drivers that cyclists may be present on or crossing the roadway ahead. It is used where bicycle traffic forms part of the normal road environment and drivers need earlier awareness to reduce conflict risk.
Purpose and function
This sign warns drivers to anticipate cyclists ahead and to adjust speed and positioning accordingly. It supports safer passing behaviour, improved scanning, and better reaction time, particularly where cyclists may be less visible due to lighting, road curvature, or roadside activity.
Typical applications
- Public and private roads where cyclists regularly share the roadway
- Estate roads, access routes, and mixed vehicle–cycle environments
- Approaches to cycle routes, crossing points, or recreational areas
Selection and placement guidance
- Install the sign in advance of the area where cyclists may be encountered
- Ensure unobstructed visibility from normal driver approach distances
- Use consistently on routes with ongoing cyclist activity, not as a general warning

- 1.2 mm Chromadek steel with a retro reflective sign face for day and night visibility
- Poles, clamps, nuts and bolts are not included, email us should you require a quote on any additional items
